Getting to Know the Father Beyond Religion
Dear sister in Christ, God wants to introduce Himself to you.
He already knows you completely, yet so many of us only know about Him. There is a big difference between hearing about someone and truly knowing them personally. And this is exactly what the Lord invites us into—a real relationship with Him.
He wants you to know Him better so that, from there, you can decide how to respond to Him and how to walk through life in His grace.
Unlike religion, faith in the Lord Jesus is not forced. God does not coerce anyone into loving Him. He gives every person the dignity of choice because one day, when we stand before Him, no one else will make that decision for us.
So let me ask you, dear sister: Who do you believe God is? What is He really like?
As a Bible teacher, I can only share what the Word of God says. What you choose to do with that truth is between you and the Lord. That is where wisdom comes in.
Knowledge is information. Wisdom is knowing what to do with it.
And the beautiful thing is this: God does not treat us like robots. He treats us as intelligent image-bearers created in His likeness. He gave us minds, and He expects us to use them.
I love that about Him.
God Invites Us to Reason With Him
One thing I noticed in Scripture is that God constantly invites people into conversation with Him.
He reasons with us
Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord.“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.”
God is not distant or unwilling to engage with us. He calls us near.
He even invites us to test His faithfulness
Malachi 3:10
“Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven…”
He invites us to call on Him
Jeremiah 33:3
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
Isn’t that amazing? The Creator of the universe actually wants us to come to Him, ask questions, seek Him, and know Him personally.
So for a moment, let us set aside religious assumptions and get to know God according to His Word.
God Is One in Three Persons — The Trinity
This can sound complicated at first, but let’s simplify it.
The Bible reveals God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three Persons, yet one God.
We see this even in creation itself.
Genesis 1:1–2
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth… and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
Then God spoke creation into existence—and Jesus is called the Word of God.
John 1:1–3
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… Through Him all things were made.”
So at creation we already see:
God the Father
The Holy Spirit
Jesus, the eternal Word
The Trinity appears throughout Scripture:
Matthew 28:19
“Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 13:14
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
God is beautifully relational even within Himself. No wonder He created us for relationship too.
What Is God Like?
1. God Is Almighty
God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and sovereign over everything.
Jeremiah 32:17
“Nothing is too hard for You.”
He reigns and He rules. Earthly kings may reign symbolically, but God actively governs creation. Nothing escapes His authority.
And yet, despite all His power, He is patient with humanity.
Honestly, if God were not loving and merciful, none of us would survive our rebellion and sin. But His strength is tempered by compassion.
This should comfort us deeply.
No problem in your life is beyond His ability to solve.
No heartbreak is too complicated for Him.
No situation is too broken for His power.
2. God Is Creator
Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Colossians 1:16
“For in Him all things were created…”
Everything exists because of Him. Because He created life, only He has the authority to define it, guide it, and determine its purpose. Yet in His goodness, He gave humanity free will.
That is why evil exists—not because God delights in wickedness, but because people choose disobedience.
Still, God remains just. Evil will not go unanswered forever.
And while we wait, He teaches us to live differently:
Romans 12:18–19
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone… Do not take revenge… leave room for God’s wrath.”
Dear sister, we can rest knowing God sees every injustice.
3. God Is Judge
This is not always comfortable to hear, but it is necessary. God is holy and absolutely sinless. Because He is our Creator, we are accountable to Him.
Psalm 7:11
“God is a righteous judge.”
2 Corinthians 5:10
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.”
The standard of heaven is perfection, and none of us can meet that standard on our own.
That is exactly why Jesus came.
Only a sinless sacrifice could pay for sin, so God Himself came in the flesh through the Lord Jesus Christ and took our punishment upon Himself.
This is not cruelty. This is love meeting justice.
4. God Is Love
And here, dear sister, is the part that changes everything:
1 John 4:8
“God is love.”
Not merely loving. He IS love.
God is personal. He desires closeness with us. He is not a distant deity watching from afar.
One of the most beautiful truths of Christianity is this: God becomes Father to His children.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…”
And because of Jesus, nothing can separate us from His love.
Romans 8:38–39
“Neither death nor life… nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God…”
What incredible comfort. God is mighty, holy, and sovereign—but His greatness is softened by His compassion toward us.
Lamentations 3:22–23
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed… His mercies are new every morning.”
Every morning, dear sister.
New mercy. New compassion. New grace.
How Has God Revealed Himself to Us?
1. Through Creation
Creation itself points to Him.
Psalm 19:1
“The heavens declare the glory of God.”
The beauty, order, and complexity of creation all testify that there is a Creator.
2. Through Jesus Christ
If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.
John 14:9
“Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.”
Jesus is the exact representation of God’s heart, character, and nature.
3. Through His Word
The Bible is God revealing Himself to humanity.
Isaiah 45:5
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.”
When we read Scripture, we are not merely reading ancient words. We are encountering the heart and mind of God Himself.
Final Encouragement
Dear sister, God is not hiding from you. He wants to be known. He wants relationship, not empty religion. He wants your heart, not just rituals. He wants you to come close enough to discover that He is far kinder, wiser, and more loving than you ever imagined.
And once you truly know Him, everything else in life begins to make sense.
