Living with Conviction in a World That Calls Truth “Old-Fashioned”

Dear sister in Christ, I know how challenging it can be to remain true to your convictions while feeling pressured to act in ways contrary to what you believe. There are moments when you’ve been tempted to give in—wondering if perhaps they’re right and you’re wrong. Wrong about morality. Wrong about traditional values. Wrong, even, about modesty and your fashion choices.
You’ve been called old-fashioned. And though you know deep down that standing firm in biblical truth is right, you can’t help but sometimes feel out of touch with the world.
Outdated. Old-fashioned. Obsolete. These are just some of the labels used by modern culture to vilify believers and dismiss biblical womanhood. I believe this is one of the biggest reasons why many Christians hesitate to openly share their faith. We fear being misunderstood or mocked because we don’t subscribe to the party scene, the hookup culture, or the liberal bandwagon.
But here’s the truth: the Bible is not outdated—it is eternally relevant. It is alive, powerful, and still transforming lives today.
The Relevance of God’s Word in a Modern World
The Bible is not only relevant; it’s also prophetic. Of all the prophecies it contains, roughly 80% have already been fulfilled. Even if none of the remaining prophecies ever came to pass (and we know they will), that level of accuracy is still unmatched.
The Bible is not an ancient relic; it is the living Word of God. It will stand forever because truth never expires. And so, dear sister, we can rest assured that our faith is not misplaced—we are standing on eternal truth.
The Cost of Standing Firm
I understand the fear of being judged or dismissed as boring, irrelevant, or rigid. I’ve been there. At this stage of life, I only have a couple of close friends—though I’ve lived more than five decades. And yet, that has taught me resilience. It has given me thicker skin and a peace that surpasses fleeting human approval.
The Bible says “fear not” 365 times—one for every day of the year. That’s no coincidence. God is reminding us that His truth outweighs every cultural trend.
Yes, biblical convictions may look traditional. But traditional does not mean irrelevant. God’s standards do not bow to modern thinking or shifting cultural values. His truth stands, and it is far better to face the backlash of unbelievers than the disappointment of a Father we claim to serve.
Choosing Conviction Over Compromise
Here’s how I navigate this balancing act: I choose to distance myself from the culture and quietly live out my convictions. It’s not always easy. There are moments of loneliness and isolation. But the peace I receive from God far outweighs the fleeting approval of others.
To remain steadfast, you must build your life on two unshakable foundations:
Clarity – Know what you believe, based on Scripture.
Commitment – Make a personal decision to honor God with your choices.
With clarity and commitment, you will be protected from compromise and strengthened to remain faithful as a modern Christian woman.
Encouragement for Today
So don’t be afraid, my sister. The Father sees your effort to stay true to Him. He knows the weight of the pressure you face and the faithfulness it takes to keep walking in truth. The same biblical principles that have guided you until today will continue to anchor and protect you.
Stay strong. Stay faithful. Stay relevant—not to the culture, but to Christ.
